How to choose a lacrosse shaft

Three things decide which shaft is right for you: material, weight, and length.

Pick your material

Primo builds shafts in two materials, and the real difference is how they fail.

  • Carbon composite — lighter than aluminum alloy at the same strength, flexes to add snap to your shot, won't dent or bend, and takes grip textures metal can't hold. The honest trade-off: when carbon fails, it breaks rather than bending. That's why we build heavier, thicker-walled models for players who take checks.
  • Scandium-titanium alloy — the Sc-Ti 7X, 185g, $79.99. Dents or bends instead of snapping, so a damaged shaft usually finishes the game. Slicker surface than carbon, so most players add tape. At $79.99 it undercuts the $120–$200 typical for scandium-titanium, because we sell factory direct.

Pick your weight by position

  • 145g — attack and offensive middies who want the fastest hands available.
  • 175g — the balanced choice for attack and two-way middies. Our most popular short stick.
  • 185g (Sc-Ti 7X) — for players who want a metal shaft that dents instead of snapping.
  • 210g — box, short stick D, and anyone who has broken a shaft before. Thicker walls, more material where checks land.
  • 375g–400g — 60" long poles for LSM and close defense.

Pick your length

Short sticks are 30". Field long poles are 60". Box defensive shafts run 32"–36" — check your league's rules before you buy, since box stick length limits differ from field.

Are they legal for high school and college?

Yes. All Primo shafts are NFHS and NCAA legal.
