Choosing a shaft

What weight shaft should I get?

Weight is the main decision, and it trades hand speed against durability. 145g is the lightest we make — best for attackmen and offensive middies who live on quick stick work. 175g is the balanced pick and where most players should start. 210g is built for players who break shafts: thicker walls, more material in the impact zone, and the right call for short stick D or box. 375g–400g are 60" long poles for LSM and close defense.

Does Primo sell scandium or scandium-titanium shafts?

Yes. The Sc-Ti 7X is our scandium-titanium alloy shaft: 185g, 30", $79.99, with a 180-day warranty, in Bead Blast and 3D Raised Checkered finishes. That price sits well below the $120–$200 typical for scandium-titanium, because we sell factory direct. Choose it over carbon if you want a shaft that dents rather than snaps.

Should I buy carbon composite or scandium-titanium?

It comes down to how you want the shaft to fail. Carbon composite is lighter at the same strength, flexes to add snap to your shot, and takes grip textures metal can't hold — but when it fails, it breaks. Scandium-titanium alloy dents or bends instead, so a damaged shaft usually finishes the game, at the cost of a slicker surface that often needs tape. If you take heavy contact and hate the idea of a mid-game snap, go Sc-Ti. If you want the lightest possible stick with the best grip, go carbon.

What length shaft do I need?

Short sticks — attack and midfield — are 30". Field long poles for LSM and close defense are 60". Box defensive shafts run 32"–36". Check your league's rules before buying, since box stick length limits differ from field.

What shaft should I get as a two-way midfielder?

The Darkhorse-175. It's heavy enough to feel solid on checks and light enough to dodge with, which is exactly the compromise a two-way middie needs. If you take a lot of contact or have broken shafts before, step up to the 210 — or the Sc-Ti 7X if you'd rather have a shaft that dents than one that snaps.

Which shaft lasts longest?

The heavier models. Durability in carbon composite comes from wall thickness and material in the impact zone, so the 210 outlasts the 175, which outlasts the 145. Our warranty periods reflect this directly — heavier shafts carry longer coverage.

Choosing a head

What's the difference between the RC1, the RC1 N2O, and the Darkhorse head?

The RC1 is our flagship field head — D1-tested, works at every position, $34.99 unstrung. The RC1 N2O is the upgraded RC1 platform for players who want more from the same shape, $54.99 unstrung. The Darkhorse is a straightforward budget-focused field head at $34.99 unstrung. There's also the RC1 Box Pinch: the RC1 with a box-specific pinch for indoor play, $34.99 unstrung.

Should I buy my head strung or unstrung?

Unstrung costs $10 less and lets you build the pocket you want — choose it if you string your own or have someone who does. Strung ships ready to play, which is the right call for youth players, parents buying gear, or anyone who wants to skip the break-in.

What are numbered sidewall holes and why do they matter?

Every Primo head has its sidewall holes numbered. That means you can follow a stringing pattern hole by hole instead of guessing which one a guide means. If you're learning to string, it removes most of the frustration.

Rules and legality

Are Primo shafts and heads NFHS and NCAA legal?

All Primo shafts are NFHS and NCAA legal. All Primo heads are legal except the RC1 Box Pinch, which is built specifically for box lacrosse and is not approved for NFHS or NCAA field play. If you're buying for high school or college field lacrosse, choose the RC1, RC1 N2O or Darkhorse head.

Stringing and replacement parts

Do you sell lacrosse head screws?

Yes — head screws in a 10-pack, alongside 10-yard sidewall string segments in white and black, and our Select 10 Diamond Performance Mesh. You can build a complete pocket from one order.

What is the Power Sleeve?

The Power Sleeve is a Primo accessory that fits your shaft. It's sold on its own and also comes bundled in our complete stick setups alongside a strung RC1 head and a Darkhorse shaft.

What mesh does Primo sell?

Shipping and orders

How fast does Primo ship?

Orders ship in 1 to 2 business days. Multiple carrier options are available at checkout, so you can pick the speed and price that suit you.

Custom team orders

What's the minimum order for custom team shafts?

6 units. That's genuinely low for custom — most brands start at 12 to 24 — and it means a small club, a position group, or a handful of teammates can order together without committing to a full team run.

How long do custom team orders take?

8 to 10 weeks from art approval. Custom shafts are manufactured to order, so plan backwards from your season. Start the conversation early and the timeline takes care of itself.

How much do custom team shafts cost?

Pricing depends on quantity, design and shaft model, so we quote each order. Email dave@primosportsco.com and we'll send free mock-ups and a quote.

Warranty

How long is my Primo shaft covered?

Coverage runs from date of purchase and depends on the model — from 90 days on the lightest shafts to 365 days on the heaviest. The full warranty page has the model-by-model table.

How does the warranty work on a 2-pack?

2-packs don't carry a separate warranty — the second shaft is the warranty replacement. You get it up front instead of waiting on a claim.

How are Primo heads covered?

The RC1, RC1 N2O and Darkhorse heads carry a lifetime warranty handled by our manufacturing partner. Submit all head claims through 5lax.com/warranty. Normal play only, you pay return shipping, and coverage is valid in the US and Canada only.

How long does a warranty claim take?

We review claims within 5 business days and come back to you with next steps. Once approved, we ship the replacement.

What isn't covered?

Chips and scratches aren't covered — they're expected during regular play. Products won in giveaways or promotions are excluded. Damage outside normal playing conditions isn't covered.

Returns

What if I buy a shaft and don't like it?

Every Primo shaft comes with a 30-Day Full Refund and Exchange Guarantee. Return it within 30 days of purchase for a full refund or an exchange — no defect required. Email dave@primosportsco.com, we send a printable return label, you repack it in the original box and send it back.

Do I pay for return shipping?

No. Return shipping is free within the US.

How is the 30-day trial different from the warranty?

They cover different problems. The warranty covers gear that breaks. The 30-day trial covers gear that simply isn't right for you. No defect needed for the trial.

We sell factory direct with no retailer markup. That's the whole reason a 175g carbon shaft is $89.99 here rather than $150+ elsewhere — you're not paying for a distributor and a shop margin on top of the product.

Is Primo gear actually any good, or is it just cheap?

The RC1 head is D1-tested, and every shaft carries a warranty plus a 30-day trial guarantee. We'd rather you buy one, play with it, and send it back if it isn't right than take our word for it.
